Pulamed is a not-for-profit open medical aid scheme, registered as a Trust (Trust No. TUHGB-000071-20, originally registered by Notarial Deed of Trust MA 22/91) and regulated by the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA). Any member of the public can join, subject to the Fund Rules.
Pulamed’s purpose is to provide ease of access to affordable, equitable and high-quality healthcare to its members through innovative means. The Fund belongs to its members and is overseen by an independent Board of Trustees, with administration, managed care and health risk management outsourced to specialised independent service providers.
Pulamed is the second largest open medical scheme in Botswana, covering 27,669 principal members and 64,805 lives as at 30 June 2026. Its value proposition is access to affordable quality healthcare, driven by smart product offerings, cost management and the use of ICT.
Benefit Options
Pulamed offers 5 benefit options. Members pay a 10% co-payment for out-of-hospital benefits; the Fund has removed the 10% co-payment for in-hospital expenses, chronic medication and optical benefits.
